Jimmy Carter, the longest-living US president, died at 100 in Plains, Georgia, his birthplace. His death follows nearly two years in hospice care. He survived his wife of 77 years, Rosalynn, who passed in November 2023 at age 96. Carter leaves behind four children, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Carter’s son, Chip, praised him as a hero who championed peace, human rights, and unity. “The world is our family because of the way he brought people together,” he said, urging others to honor Carter’s legacy by embracing these shared values.

Weeks before his death, Carter’s grandson Jason shared a touching moment. Though frail and often unresponsive, Carter smiled while watching an Atlanta Braves game, reflecting his enduring spirit.

Carter, elected in 1976, served a single term marked by significant achievements. His greatest legacy was the Camp David Accords, a historic peace agreement between Israel and Egypt. He declared, “Human rights is the soul of our foreign policy,” emphasizing his vision for a just world.

Before his presidency, Carter served in the Georgia Senate, reforming state bureaucracy. After leaving office, he dedicated himself to humanitarian causes, including Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center. His efforts to promote peace and democracy earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Carter’s final public appearance came during memorial services for his wife, where he was seen in a wheelchair, reflecting his declining health. His passing marks the end of a remarkable life devoted to service, compassion, and unity.
