J&K kicks off Historic Phase I Polling After a decade Gap

Jammu and Kashmir has kicked off Phase I of polling after a 10-year break. Districts across the region actively taking part in this highly anticipated election. A total of 219 candidates, including 90 independents, are contesting for votes in what marks the first Assembly election in the region in nearly a decade.

Over 23 lakh registered voters are set to cast their ballots. The Election Commission closely overseeing the electoral process. Significant participation is seen among young voters aged 18 to 19, Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), and elderly voters over 85, highlighting a diverse and inclusive voter base.

Polling is taking place at 3,276 stations across the region Approximately 14,000 staff members working diligently to ensure that the election proceeds smoothly and transparently. 

This crucial phase of polling represents a major step toward restoring democracy in Jammu and Kashmir, providing its people the chance to choose their leaders and shape the future of their region.
