New Delhi, Jan 31 (HS): Jamia Millia student Shahdab Farooq, who was shot at yesterday by a man, suffering injuries thereafter, has been released from AIIMS on Friday morning.
Farooq was demonstrating outside the Jamia Milia University on Thursday afternoon when a man opened fire at the protesters.
Farooq sustained injuries in his hand. He was immediately taken to Holy Family hospital from where he was transferred to AIIMS.
Al-Ameen, a student of Jamia’s Mass Communication department and Farooq’s friend, said he was discharged from the hospital around 8 am.
“His father reached Delhi on Thursday night to take him back to Kashmir but Shahdab won’t go back home. He will stay at the university,” she said.
Immediate after the incident, tension spiralled in Jamia Nagar on Thursday. After firing, he just walked away waving the firearm above his head and shouting “Yeh lo aazadi” amid heavy police presence in the area.
The man who shot at the protesters was arrested and has been identified as Gopal Sharma from Jevar in Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
Police sources said that Gopal was a minor and was disturbed after one of his known person was killed in violence in UP.
