French Guiana / New Delhi, Jan 17 (HS): India successfully launched the communication satellite GSAT 30 (GSAT 30) from French Guiana on Thursday late night. This satellite will provide high-quality television, telecommunications, and broadcasting services.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO ISRO) reported that the GSAT-30 satellite took off from the Ariane launch complex of the French territory Kauro off the northeastern coast of South America at 2.35 pm Indian time. The Ariane 5 vehicle placed the satellite in its orbit after about 38 minutes of flight. ISRO tweeted, “GSAT 30 successfully broke away from Ariane 5’s upper stage.”

GSAT-30 weighs about 3100 kg. According to ISRO, the GSAT-30 satellite will work in place of INSAT-4. Its coverage capacity will be more than INSAT-4.GSAT-30 will continue to work for India on earth for 15 years. This will strengthen India’s communication service.

According to the space agency, the spacecraft would be extensively used for supporting VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) network, television uplinking and teleport services, digital satellite newsgathering (DSNG), DTH television services, cellular backhaul connectivity and many such applications.

The same satellite is also used to gather meteorological information. GSAT-30 is to serve as a replacement to the “aging” INSAT-4A spacecraft services with enhanced coverage, Isro has said, adding the satellite provides Indian mainland and islands coverage in Ku-band and extended coverage in C-band covering Gulf countries, a large number of Asian countries and Australia.
