Iran FM visits Syria, pledges ‘firm support’ in anti-terrorism fight
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Damascus on Sunday to reaffirm Tehran’s support for Syria amid a surprise offensive by foreign-backed Takfiri terrorists. Araghchi, heading a delegation, delivered a firm message of backing to the Syrian government.
Before his departure, Araghchi stated that Iran stands by the Syrian army and government. He emphasized that Iran sees no distinction between the Israeli regime and the Takfiri terrorists, both of which Tehran considers threats to regional security. He warned that after Israel’s failures, external forces were trying to use terrorist groups to spread instability in the region.
Araghchi stressed that the Syrian army would, as in the past, emerge victorious against these terrorist groups. He also highlighted that Takfiri terrorists, aligned with the U.S. and Israel, are doomed to fail due to the strength of resistance forces. He condemned the ongoing conspiracies in West Asia, including the rise of terrorism that threatens Syria’s stability.
During his visit, Araghchi plans to hold talks with Syrian officials on bilateral relations and regional developments. Key issues include combating terrorism, supporting the Syrian government, and ensuring peace and stability in the country.
In a recent phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Araghchi warned that the resurgence of Takfiri terrorism in northern Syria is part of an American-Israeli plot to destabilize the region. He called for increased coordination between Iran, Russia, and Syria’s neighbors to counter this threat.
On Friday, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and allied terrorist factions launched their largest assault in years, capturing parts of Aleppo and advancing towards Hama. However, the Syrian army quickly launched a preemptive strike to thwart the attack.
Syria has faced foreign-backed terrorism since 2011, with Western countries and their allies supporting militant groups. Despite this, President Bashar al-Assad has vowed to protect Syria’s sovereignty and stability. HTS has also been linked to Israel in efforts to undermine Syria’s counterterrorism efforts.
