Interstate gang of thieves busted by cops, 6 arrested
PRAYAGRAJ, March 10 (HS): SOG (narcotics) and Kaundhiara police of Prayagraj district claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of thieves with the arrest of six men. Five of their accomplices are still absconding. Jewelery worth lakhs of rupees and cash were recovered from their possession. Four of the persons are from Bihar and one each hailing from Mirzapur and Prayagraj. They have been identified as Chahwa, Bundela, Muski, Monu, Akash and Pujari. Sharp edged weapons were also seized by the police, which were used by the accused to silence any voice of dissent during their house –break in spree. The spurt in housebreaking cases in the city in recent times had worried the police. They were arrested by police and SOG (narcotics) after receiving specific input about their presence at a spot to commit crime.
“Their modus operandii was simple but effective,” said a police official while speaking to HS and added, “They would first do rounds of a colony and spot the house that remained locked during the daytime. Then they would pretend to be beggars and go from one door to another. They would scale the wall without touching the lock of the main door and gain entry in the house by breaking the locks of the inner doors with the help of specially made tools. After collecting jewelry and cash, they would runaway.” The arrested gang leader informed all this to police and also revealed that some of his gang members used to keep a watch at their target and alerted us from outside by making a shrill cry sound in case someone arrives on the crime spot.
