India’s Nitin Menon makes it to ICC Elite Panel of Umpires
New Delhi, June 29, (HS) India’s Nitin Menon got inducted in International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Elite Panel of Umpires for the upcoming 2020-21 season on Monday in place of Nigel Long of England.
Menon, 36, is the third umpire to join the panel from India, after Srinivas Venkataraghavan and Sundaram Ravi.
The selection panel consisting of ICC general manager Geoff Allerdice, former player and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, and match referees Ranjan Madugalle and David Boon selected Menon.
In an ICC statement Menon said, “It’s a great honour and a matter of pride for me to be named in the Elite Panel. To be officiating regularly along with the leading umpires and referees of the world is something that I always dreamt of and the feeling has yet to sink in.”
Menon has officiated in three Tests, 24 One Day and 16 T20 matches so far.
