India is actively pursuing Zakir Naik’s extradition with the Malaysian government, where he holds permanent residency. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, confirmed this, adding that Naik’s recent visit to Pakistan and his warm reception there was not surprising but disappointing. “A fugitive from Indian justice being welcomed at a high level in Pakistan is condemnable,” Jaiswal stated.

While the details of Naik’s travel documents remain unclear, Jaiswal noted that the issue was discussed when the Malaysian Prime Minister visited India. Naik has been wanted in India since 2016 for charges related to promoting hate speech and inciting violence through his organization, the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), and his channel, Peace TV. Both are banned in several countries, including India, Bangladesh, Canada, Sri Lanka, and the UK, under hate speech laws.

India remains committed to securing Naik’s extradition, despite the challenges. His presence in Pakistan has further complicated matters, but the Indian government continues to work closely with Malaysia on this case. Naik’s influence through Peace TV, now banned in multiple countries, and his evasion of Indian authorities, has made him a significant figure in the global fight against extremism.

The Indian government’s firm stance against Naik underscores its dedication to holding individuals accountable for promoting hatred and violence.
