Singapore, Nov 16 (HS): An Indian couple in Singapore has been convicted for trafficking women. The couple runs two entertainment clubs in Boat Quay. The couple was found guilty on Friday for illegally bringing three Bangladeshi women here. These people will be sentenced on 19 December.

Indian citizens Priyanka Bhattacharya Rajesh (29) and Malkar Savalaram Anant (49) were also accused of harassment of women. One of these women was pushed into the body trade. These women were promised jobs as dancers in ‘Kangan’ and ‘Kick’ clubs and 60,000 Bangladeshi Taka (982 Singapore dollars).

The prosecution said that the women were kept here in a very bad condition. No woman was allowed to keep the money received from the customer, these people used to take away this money. Apart from this, two of these women were also not given their salary. The channel said that the women were asked to deposit their passports and they were not even given ‘permits’ to do their work.

Women were also forced to work in sickness. They were made to work seven days a week. These women were monitored the whole time. The couple’s crimes were revealed after a joint operation with the ‘Ministry of Manpower’ based on an intelligence received by the police.
