India unveils ‘One Nation One Subscription’ for universal research access
India has approved the ‘One Nation One Subscription’ (ONOS) scheme to provide nationwide access to research articles and journals. Announced on November 25, this initiative aims to democratize academic resources, fostering innovation and research.
The government has allocated ₹6,000 crore for ONOS, which will operate from 2025 to 2027. It seeks to benefit over 6,300 institutions, including universities and research bodies, covering around 1.8 crore students, researchers, and faculty members. INFLIBNET, under the UGC, will oversee the scheme.
Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and the Viksit Bharat@2047 vision, ONOS addresses resource gaps in smaller cities, boosting interdisciplinary research. A dedicated portal will centralize access, monitored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).
