India slips in Test rankings, Australia reaches the top
Dubai,01 May(HS): India’s reign in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test ranking has come to an end. Australia topped the Test rankings in the latest rankings released after the annual update on Friday.
Apart from Tests, Australia has also topped the T20 rankings. While England continued to top the ODI rankings. For the annual update, the ICC has recognized 100% of the series’ results after May 2019 and 50% of the series in the last two years.
After the new update, India has now slipped to third place in the Test rankings, while New Zealand has moved up to second place. Australia’s latest rankings are 116 ratings points, New Zealand 115 and India 114.
The ICC said in a statement, “India has lost the top spot for the first time since October 2016. India had won 12 Tests in 2016-17 and the Indian team had lost in just one Test. India won all five series against England and Australia. On the other hand, Australia lost to India as well as South Africa in the same period. These records of India have been removed in the new update. After which The Indian team has lost the number one spot in the rankings.”
In the ICC ODI team rankings, world champions England remain on top with 127 points. India remains in second place with 119 points while New Zealand is in third place with 116 points.
There are many changes in the ICC T20 team rankings. For the first time since 2011, Australia has topped the T20 rankings (278 points).
