India sees 1% yearly rise in october energy consumption

India’s power consumption rose by one percent in October, reaching 140.47 billion units (BU) compared to last year. This increase stems from growing demand in the industrial and agricultural sectors, reflecting the country’s rapid economic expansion.

Although peak power demand fell from its record high in May, the International Energy Agency (IEA) projects that India will see substantial energy demand growth in the coming decade. The IEA’s World Energy Outlook anticipates that India will become the world’s third-largest economy by 2028.

To support this rising energy need, India plans to boost its electricity generation capacity to 1,400 GW by 2035. Coal will continue to play a significant role in the energy mix, with a 15 percent increase in coal-based electricity generation expected by 2030. Additionally, the government aims to enhance production in sectors like iron and steel and cement.

The increasing energy demand underscores India’s trajectory toward a more robust energy infrastructure.
