India-Russia discuss trade, economy, science, tech, and culture
On November 12, 2024, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov co-chaired the 25th session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, in New Delhi.
Established in 1992, the IRIGC-TEC oversees bilateral cooperation through 14 working groups and 6 sub-groups. The session focused on key areas such as trade, economic growth, hydrocarbons, nuclear energy, connectivity, and culture.
The Co-Chairs expressed satisfaction with the progress made in various sectors. They emphasized the importance of accelerating the finalization of the Programme of Economic Cooperation 2030, which aims to meet the ambitious target of USD 100 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. Both sides agreed to work on enhancing market access to facilitate business growth and deepen economic ties.
The session followed the India-Russia Business Forum in Mumbai on November 11, where business and industry representatives discussed issues related to manufacturing, connectivity, and investment.
In addition, Manturov held meetings with Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. These engagements were aimed at fostering stronger bilateral ties and expediting the implementation of mutual priorities.
The discussions and agreements made during the visit are expected to strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia, further boosting cooperation across various sectors.
