India has launched two new special category visas for international students: the e-student visa and the e-student-x visa. These visas aim to make studying in India more accessible. The e-student visa targets those who wish to pursue education in India, while the e-student-x visa caters to the dependents of e-student visa holders.

To apply for a visa, students can visit the Indian government’s visa website at indianvisaonline.gov.in. However, applications will be verified using the SII (Study in India) ID. The SII portal is a key tool that assists international students in navigating the admission process for various long-term and short-term courses in India.

A unique SII ID is essential for all applicants. This ID helps track college applications, manage visa processes, and engage in other related educational activities.

An Indian student visa is typically issued for up to five years, depending on the course duration. Additionally, students may extend their visa if needed. The e-student visa is available for those accepted into undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and other formal academic programs in India.

The Study in India (SII) portal, developed by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, supports this initiative. The portal provides access to 600 Indian institutions offering more than 800 courses across various fields, including engineering, technology, management, agriculture, sciences, arts, law, and even niche disciplines like Buddhist Studies and Yoga. These courses are available at different academic levels: undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and certification courses.

Students can easily register on the SII portal by entering basic information like their name, country, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID. Once registered, they can log in using their SII ID or email address and password to complete the online application form. This portal serves as a one-stop platform for managing the entire process, from admissions to visa applications.

India’s introduction of the e-student visa and e-student-x visa is expected to simplify the visa process and attract more international students. It aligns with India’s broader goal of becoming a global education hub. These visas provide a streamlined way for international students to come to India, pursue their studies, and bring along their families.
