India has secured two contrasting victories in their five-match T20I series against England. Despite the differences in outcomes, one thing remains consistent: England’s batters struggle against India’s spin bowlers.

In the second T20I, England’s batting showed some improvement, but it was India’s spinners who kept the pressure on. India’s four-pronged spin attack, including Varun Chakravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar, has proven crucial in both victories. Sundar struck with his first delivery in the second T20I, further demonstrating the effectiveness of India’s spin-heavy strategy.

Rajkot, the venue for the third T20I, is known for its spin-friendly track, making it likely that India will continue with their successful spin attack. However, this means the wait for pacer Mohammed Shami’s return to international cricket will stretch on for another match.

India’s batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, clarified that Shami’s absence in the first two games was due to tactical decisions, not fitness concerns. With Arshdeep Singh performing well with the ball, especially against England’s Phil Salt, it makes sense to keep Arshdeep in the lineup. Arshdeep is on the verge of becoming the first Indian to take 100 wickets in T20Is, making his place secure.

While India’s bowlers shine, captain Suryakumar Yadav has struggled with the bat. His form has been inconsistent since the 2024 T20 World Cup, and his decision to drop to number four in the South Africa series was made to balance the team’s lineup. Despite his quiet performances, India has thrived, thanks to contributions from other players.

One standout performer is Tilak Varma. The 22-year-old played a match-winning knock in the second T20I, impressing with his maturity and composure. His innings marked a significant moment in his career, earning him praise for his growth as a player. With other batsmen stepping up, including Hardik Pandya and Dhruv Jurel, it’s unlikely India will make changes to the batting order for the third T20I.

India’s predicted XI for the third T20I against England includes:

Sanju Samson (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi/Mohammed Shami/Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy.

India’s strong spin attack and solid team performance make them favorites going into the third T20I, but Shami’s awaited return remains a talking point.
