IGNCA Ranchi marks first convocation ceremony

Ranchi, 10 February 2021 The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Regional Centre Ranchi organised the First Convocation Ceremony of the Post graduate Diploma in Tribal Arts and Crafts (PGDTAC) today. Governor Draupadi Murmu, Governor was the the Chief Guest here. The Guests of Honour present were Dr Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA, Professor Ramesh Kumar Pandey, Vice Chancellor, Ranchi University; Padmashree Dr Ashok Bhagat, Secretary, Vikas Bharti and Professor Kamini Kumar, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Ranchi University.

 IGNCA RCR is running a one-year Post-Graduate Diploma Course in collaboration with Ranchi University, where the students are provided theoretical and practical knowledge (Sastra and Prayoga) in the discipline. The course has been designed to inculcate indigenous knowledge of socio-religious, ecological, traditional customs, various art forms etc and their cosmological and cosmogonic manifestations through teaching and training programmes so that the students can carve their own niche by self-reliance in the field of Tribal Arts. Overcoming the challenges of the pandemic, the first batch of PGDTAC course has successfully been completed.
An exhibition was also being curated as a part of the programme wherein tribal paintings namely, Sohrai, Kohbar, Payatkar, Godna and Gond paintings by the students of PGDTAC are being displayed, to promulgate the indigenous painting tradition of Jharkhand.
Joshi enlightened regarding the aims and objectives of IGNCA and how the Centre has been striving to preserve, conserve and disseminate the Indian Art and Culture. The Governor expressed immense pleasure to be present on the occasion of the First Convocation Ceremony of the PGDTAC course and congratulated the 15 (fifteen) successful candidates for their dedication and hardwork.
She also apprised regarding the importance of study and preservation of Tribal Arts and Crafts, as the indigenous culture reflects vibrancy and Tribal India.
Fifteen students were provided certificates by Her Excellency namely, Ajamber Singh Munda, Amrit Kandulna, Anita Kumari, Ashish Kerketta, Birsingh Mahto, Bolo Kumari Oraon, Chandra Deo Singh, Debraj Sengupta, Diksha Sinha, Namita Kumari, Nitesh Lakra, Nitish Kumar, Pratibha Kumari, Sanjay Kumar Verma and Sweta Rani. Professor HS Pandey, Former Head of the History Department was felicitated by the Governor  for donating more than 250 books from his personal collection to IGNCA, RC Ranchi.
