ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: Australia’s Ellyse Perry ruled out due to hamstring injury
New Delhi, March 3 (HS). Australia’s ace player Ellyse Perry has been ruled out of the remaining world cup due to hamstring injury. Perry injured her right hamstring while fielding against New Zealand in a group match on Monday. Despite Perry’s injury, Australia beat New Zealand and qualifies for the semifinal. Perry is also expected to miss Australia’s tour of South Africa later this month.
Perry has a high profile in Australia after playing for the country in both cricket and soccer World Cups. She makes her international debut when she was a teenager.
Australia’s head coach Mathew Mott said, “On a personal level we’re disappointed that she won’t have the opportunity to finish the tournament. She gives her absolute all every time she takes to the field for her country and that was evident again against New Zealand in the selfless manner in which she threw herself into her batting, bowling and fielding performances.”
After loosing the first match against India, Australia came back stronger and beat Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and New Zealand in their next three group matches.
