On Friday, the ICC will hold a virtual meeting with stakeholders to finalize details for the 2025 Champions Trophy, including dates and venue. However, the BCCI’s reluctance to send India’s team to Pakistan, the designated host, and the Pakistan Cricket Board’s refusal to accept a hybrid hosting model have delayed the finalization.

Representatives from 12 full ICC member countries, three associate nations, and key ICC officials will be part of the discussion.According to reports, two plans may be proposed. The first plan suggests hosting three of India’s group stage games, one semi-final, and the final in a neutral country like the UAE.

This would be due to the UAE’s proximity to Pakistan, making travel easier for teams. The second plan suggests that if India fails to qualify for the knockout stage, both semi-finals and the final will take place in Pakistan.

The ICC may call for a vote among member boards, and the majority decision will determine the final choice. If the decision is made to hold some games outside of Pakistan, the PCB will have to reassess its plans. The tournament is expected to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025.

Meanwhile, former cricketer Aakash Chopra weighed in on the issue. He argued that the 2025 Champions Trophy can’t proceed without India’s participation. He also supported the Indian government’s decision not to send the team to Pakistan, citing security and political tensions between the two nations.

Chopra emphasized that such decisions are not in the hands of the BCCI but are made by the Indian government. He stated that the event cannot proceed without India’s involvement, reinforcing the crucial role India plays in international cricket.
