High court quashes petition seeking permission to contest New Delhi seat polls.

New Delhi, Jan 28 (HS): Delhi High court today quashed the petition seeking permission to contest assembly polls against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi, saying that it was against the Constitutional Act 226 and Section 100 of the Representation of the People Act.

The petitioners has alleged that they all went to file their nominations were refused by the Returning Officer. The petition has said that the Returning Officer did not accept their nomination to contest election from New Delhi seat. A joint application filed in the court has also said that their names should be included in the list of contestants and till then the list should not be released. The last date to file a nomination in Delhi was January 21.

The complainants further said that they all went to submit their nomination on January 20 and were issued token for the same. But they could not file their nomination on that day and were called there the next day. On January 21, the Returning Officer refused to accept their token as it was of the previous day.

The petition also said that when Kejriwal reached to file his nomination on January 21, his nomination was accepted on priority. “This all has been done to extend benefit Kejriwal,” said the petitioners. The petitioners included Kiran Pal Singh Tyagi, Pankaj Kumar, Gopal Prasad, Ravinder Kumar, Avdhesh Kumar Singh, Virender Saxena, Asha Shukla, Pankaj, Jitendra Srivastava, Neeraj, and Mahatma Mehta.
