High alert in UP after glacier breaks off in Uttarakhand
Lucknow, 07 February (HS) : A high alert has been sounded in Uttar Pradesh after a glacier broke off and triggered flash floods in neighbouring Uttarakhand on Sunday. The authorities of the districts on the banks of the Ganga river are asked to be on high alert and continuously monitor the water level of the river.
The district magistrates and the SSPs are directed, “if required, the people need to be evacuated and taken to safe place. The NDRF, SDRF and PAC Flood Company have been given instructions to be on highest alert.”
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the district authorities in case of rise in water level people residing on the banks of Ganga should be shifted elsewhere. The CM has appealed to the people to exercise caution and not to believe in any rumours.
CM Yogi has also assured the Uttarakhand government for providing all assistance in relief and rescue operations.
It may be mentioned here that a glacier broke off and triggered flash floods in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand causing devastation in the area. Around 150 labourers working at a power project there are feared dead.
