New Delhi,05 May(HS): Former Australian spin bowler Shane Warne said that when cricket resumed after the Coronavirus shutdown, heavy balls should be used so that the health of the fast bowlers are not threatened and they also get swing.

Actually, fast bowlers used to shine the ball with sweat and saliva, it is a traditional method. However, this method can now be discontinued on health grounds, as it may increase the risk of coronavirus in players.

In the Sky Sports Podcast, Warne said, “Why can’t the ball be heavy on one side so that it always swings? It will be like a tape tennis ball.”

He said, “I don’t think you would want to hoist it in corners like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, but it can also, give fast bowlers swing on flat wickets when the wicket is hot and it can be helpful on the second third day as well.”

Pakistan’s great bowlers Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram had greatness in reverse swing. Reverse swing is caused by shining the ball from one side and keeping it rough from the other side.

“There is no danger of a ball tempering in playing with a heavy ball. You should not worry about ball-tampering. It will be a good competition between the bat and the ball,” said Warne.

Australian cricket ball manufacturer Kookaburra says they will develop a wax applicator to enhance swing and shine.

Warne took 1001 wickets in all formats, playing for Australia, he retired from cricket in 2007.
