Haryana Nagar Nigam Polls 2025: BJP leads in Gurugram & Hisar, Congress struggles in municipalities

The counting of votes for the Haryana Municipal Corporation Elections 2025 began at 8 am today. Voters cast their ballots on March 2 for key positions, including mayors, presidents, and ward members in municipal corporations, councils, and committees. Panipat held its mayoral election separately on March 9. The voter turnout stood at 41 percent across all local bodies.

BJP, Congress in Tight Race for Gurugram

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are locked in a fierce contest, especially in Gurugram. The elections in the city focused on electing ward members and a new mayor. The BJP aims for a majority in the municipality, while the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) expanded from 35 to 36 wards this term.

Polling also took place in Manesar, Faridabad, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal, Yamunanagar, and Panipat. By-elections for the mayoral posts in Ambala and Sonepat are also underway.

State Election Commission Monitors Results

Haryana State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh confirmed that election results would be published on the State Election Commission’s official website, secharyana.gov.in. The final results will determine political control over key urban bodies in the state.
