‘Harit Viwah’ campaign gaining traction in UP
PRAYAGRAJ, April 24 (HS): A man wearing a face shield set out on a 10-kilometer journey from Bojhi to Rajgarh village in Pratapgarh district. This was not to avoid the claustrophobia that came with the new Covid limitations, but rather to commemorate his wedding. The scorching heat had little impact on Vinay Kumar, who was accompanied by a group of green activists. The aim of their long journey was to spread awareness about environmental safety and to promote the use of masks in the fight against the deadly second wave of coronavirus. Vinay is employed in a private factory in Pratapgarh and is involved in environmental awareness campaigns.
Residents admired the groom’s noble gesture as he arrived in the village on his bicycle with the small number of “baraatis.” Vinay’s family members said that during the pandemic, they made the decision to cut back on needless expenses and raise awareness about environmental conservation. They only invited a few people in order to maintain social distance. “We have been constantly promoting the idea of ‘green weddings’ in villages, blocks, and cities across the country,” Ajay Krantikari, the head of Paryawaran Sena, an environmental organisation, said. Limited baratis paddled from village to village during the corona era to spread the message of social distancing and the wearing of masks.”
While paddling from Bojhi village to Rajgarh, all of the baraatis wore masks and kept a safe distance from one another. Locals were also seen photographing and filming the rare ‘baraat.’ Krantikari was the one who persuaded Vinay and his family to ride their bicycles to the bride’s house. According to Krantikari, the Harit Viwah campaign is gaining traction across the state.
