Ahmedabad/New Delhi, Jan 19 (HS): Congress leader Hardik Patel on Saturday has been sent to judicial custody till January 24. He was arrested for failing to appear before a trial a court in Ahmedabad in alleged sedition case.
The Crime Branch booked Hardik Patel under sedition charges in 2015, over his provocative remarks where he had allegedly asked his supporters to kill security forces (policemen) rather than committing suicide for the cause of reservation.
Patel was arrested near Viramgam in Ahmedabad on Saturday after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him in the case.
Denying the allegations of sedition levelled on him, however, Patel had asserted that there was no evidence against him in the charge-sheet filed by the Crime Branch.
The matter came to light during the violent agitation when Hardik Patel allegedly provoked Patidar community against government/security forces, saying to kill policemen instead of committing suicide, hence attracting a case of sedition against him.
