Hansal Mehta slams Industry: “Big stars keep failing, new talent ignored”

Hansal Mehta and Pratik Gandhi criticized the Hindi film industry for not giving new talent a fair chance. Speaking at the Cinevesture International Film Festival, Mehta said the industry avoids risks by casting familiar faces, even though they often fail. He praised Applause Entertainment for supporting fresh actors like Pratik Gandhi, Zahan Kapoor, and Gaggan Dev Riar.
Mehta argued that casting newcomers carries less financial risk and offers more rewards. “Big stars keep failing. Why not take small risks on new talent?” he said.
Pratik Gandhi, known for his breakout role in Mehta’s Scam series, echoed this concern. He urged filmmakers to give fresh faces a platform. “The space for newcomers is shrinking, yet many talented actors are waiting for a chance,” Gandhi said.
Gandhi is also starring in Mehta’s upcoming series on Mahatma Gandhi. He highlighted their strong working relationship built over five years. His latest film, Ghamasaan, directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, premiered at the festival.
The festival, which began with the South Korean film A Normal Family, also featured sessions with filmmakers like Vikramaditya Motwane, Nandita Das, Abhishek Chaubey, and Honey Trehan.
