Gujarat Cabinet reshuffle sees Rivaba Jadeja’s entry, Sanghavi’s return
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reshuffled his Cabinet on Friday, ending a day of intense speculation. Governor Acharya Devvrat administered the oath to 21 ministers at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar. BJP national president JP Nadda and several senior leaders attended the swearing-in ceremony, marking a major political reset in the state ahead of next year’s Lok Sabha polls.
The new Cabinet blends experience with fresh faces. Two ministers from the previous team—Harsh Sanghavi from Majura and Praful Pansheriya from Kamrej—returned to the Cabinet, signaling the party’s trust in continuity.
However, the spotlight remained on Rivaba Jadeja, BJP MLA from Jamnagar North and wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja. Her induction adds a strong symbolic and political message as the BJP aims to strengthen its base among women and younger voters.
Besides Jadeja, several first-time ministers took oath, including Arjun Modhwadia (Porbandar), Naresh Patel (Gandevi), Jitendra Vaghani (Bhavnagar West), and Manisha Vakil (Vadodara City). The inclusion of Vaghani—a seasoned leader who earlier held education and tourism portfolios—signals an attempt to balance regional and caste equations.
The reshuffle comes at a crucial time. Gujarat, which remains the BJP’s strongest fortress, heads into the 2024 general elections with high expectations of maintaining its dominance. The new team appears designed to project both renewal and experience.
Political observers noted that Kantilal Amrutiya from Morbi—who made headlines for rescuing people during last year’s bridge tragedy—has been rewarded with a ministerial berth. His inclusion highlights the party’s focus on local credibility and loyalty.
Other new entrants such as Darshana Vaghela (Asarwa), Kaushik Vekariya (Amreli), and Pravin Kumar Mali (Deesa) reflect efforts to broaden representation across regions.
The Cabinet also includes leaders from Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste communities like Jayram Gamit (Nizar) and Punamchand Baranda (Bhiloda), reinforcing the BJP’s outreach among marginalized sections.
During the ceremony, Chief Minister Patel emphasized teamwork and accountability. Party insiders said the expansion aims to distribute responsibilities ahead of key infrastructure and welfare project launches.
With this reshuffle, Patel seeks to strike a balance between stability and new energy. The inclusion of 19 new ministers marks a generational shift in Gujarat politics while reaffirming the BJP’s electoral readiness.
The new Cabinet lineup now reflects the BJP’s broader strategy—reward loyalty, enhance social representation, and prepare for a high-stakes election year.
