Guardians protest against school fee hike
Kolkata, June 25, (HS) Today many guardians of children studying in two reputed schools of the city, protested in front of the schools, forcing the authorities to intervene, seeking a solution.
As two renowned schools, under ICSE Board in New Town and in South Kolkata announced a steep hike in their annual and other monthly fees from this month despite the schools being closed since late March because of the lockdown, hundreds of guardians of both the schools assembled in front of the school gates today and demanded immediate withdrawal of the notice.
The school authorities claimed that additional fund was required to meet several monthly commitments including staff salary and expenses for several developmental activities including e-classes for higher class students. However, guardians said that currently most of them were not in a position to meet the demand because of their financial crunch during the lockdown period.
Since no regular classes were conducted, they shouted slogans for over two hours till the intervention of the police. The police have promised to look into the matter.
Guardians of several other children of various schools across the city and elsewhere in the state are making similar demands.
