Nagpur, 08 September (H.S.) : Look at the tremendous scope for development and potential of people of tribal-dominated Gadchiroli. Posting in Gondwana University is an opportunity and not punishment. This was stated by Prof Shrinivasa Varakhedi, Vice Chancellor of Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, with additional charge of Gondwana University. Prof Varakhedi has completed one year with Gondwana University on Wednesday.
Talking to The Live Nagpur Prof Varakhedi said that conducting on-line examination was considered to be a problem due to poor internet connectivity. The exams, however were conducted successfully. Now the affiliated colleges have started demanding on-line examination system to continue.
Initially the syllabi were virtually copied from that of RTM Nagpur University. Prof Varakhedi brought some changes to include 20 percent local issues. The authors of books included in the syllabi for reference cried foul on this move. However, my effort was to add local issues as a small portion, Varakhedi stated. Unless local issues and culture are studied development of the area is not possible.Despite being in charge VC Prof Varakhedi has been working hard to bring about changes in Gondwana University, aimed at one of the best universities. He visits the university at least once every week, sometimes thrice.
The lingering issue of getting 200 acres of land for the University has also been sorted out by him. The University which had only 40 affiliated colleges, now has about 200.Keeping aside local politics and differences, nomination on Search Committee for new VC, was done unanimously, due to efforts of Prof Varakhedi.
