“Girl was cremated in midnight to avoid violence”: UP Govt. to SC
New Delhi, 06 October (HS): The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on the Hathras rape case in which the government said that the body of the victim was cremated in the midnight “to avoid large-scale violence” next morning.
UP govt. further said that the decision to cremate the body of 19-year-old girl victim was taken on the basis of intelligence input which suggested that there could be violence in the state.
The UP govt informed the Supreme Court that it has already requested Centre to order CBI probe in the case. It added, “CBI probe in Hathras case will ensure no vested interests will be able to create fake, false narrative with oblique motives.”
It also said that some political parties are trying to give communal and ethnic colour to the incident.
