German student performing against CAA asked to leave India..
Chennai, Dec 24 (HS): Jacob Lindenthal, a German student doing a post-graduation in Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras), returned to Amsterdam on Monday. In fact, he received a warning from the immigration department for his involvement in the demonstration against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) last week.
Jacob had posted some pictures from his Twitter handle, in which he was seen carrying slogans written in his hands. Pictures of Jacob performing against the CAA went viral on social media.
Jakob Lindenthal, a German student at IIT Madras, was asked to leave India immediately days after he took part in anti-CAA protests in Chennai. Jakob was told that he has violated student visa rules and all this happened due to his participation in the protests.
In this case, the immigration authorities in Chennai told him that such a protest would be considered a violation of visa rules. Lindenthal told that ‘There were some administrative problems with my visa. After solving them, the immigration officials asked a lot of questions about my political views. Then I was told about leaving India and going back. He told that the immigration department had asked him to leave the country before midnight. If not done like this, he could be expelled.
Lindenthal said, “I was in Bengaluru on Saturday-Sunday. My coordinator told me (on Monday) that I would have to go to the immigration department. When I went there, I was asked to leave the country. It happened around 2 pm and I had to leave the campus of IIT Madras by 3 pm. Now I will talk to my lawyers and decide on the next step.
