Gangster carrying Rs 25,000 bounty caught during encounter in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, July 20 (HS) A gangster carrying Rs 25,000 bounty was caught following an encounter near Iradatganj air field under the jurisdiction of Ghoorpur police station of Prayagraj district on the intervening Sunday-Monday midnight. During the encounter, criminal Sunil Bhartiya resident of Bhandra locality under Naini police station received bullet injury on his leg and is being treated at SRN hospital. According to the police, accused Sunil Bhartiya is involved in more than a dozen criminal cases.
SSP Abhishek Dikshit said, “During routine checking near Iradatganj air strip, two bike-borne men suddenly drove pass through our check post. Inspector Ghoorpur, Anurag Sharma and SOG incharge, Vrindavan Rai along with the police team began chasing them down. During their pursuit, the criminals started firing at the team. During retaliatory firing, one of the accused was hit by the bullet and fell while accomplice managed to escape. Later we found that the injured was Sunil Bhartiya. We also recovered a .12 bore pistol and two live cartridges from him.” Since he opened fire at the police team, he was also booked under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under relevant sections of the Arms Act, said police.
