Lucknow,  26 March (HS) :     In a bid to increase self-employment among the youths of rural Uttar Pradesh through the Food Processing Units, the Yogi government has been making sustained efforts  to achieve the goal. Along with providing employment opportunities to the people, these food processing units will also make the farmers of the villages economically self-reliant and fulfil the resolve of rural development.

In the current Food Processing Industries Policy-2017, capital grants and rebate in interest are being provided to those who are setting up such units.

By bringing in more investment and better facilities to the food processing units, CM Yogi Adityanath is planning to provide maximum employment opportunities in rural areas. The government will create new jobs in the rural areas through its 62,122 units.

According to a spokesperson of the state government the Yogi Govt in its four year tenure,  made a record investment of Rs 10,500 crore in the food processing industry which is considered to be the backbone of the project. In fact, to execute this scheme, the government has made amendments in its food processing industry policy-2017, he said adding  that the government in the next few days, will be ready to provide employment to around three lakh people by bringing investment of more than Rs 20 thousand crore .

 To increase employment and self-employment in rural areas, the units are being set up according to the area wise agricultural production. Units related to milk products in Aligarh, Bareilly, Bulandshahar, Kanpur Dehat, Jaunpur and Mathura, especially Ghee in  Auraiya and Kasganj, green chillies in Varanasi and Deoria, Mango in Lucknow , Amroha and Sitapur, Kala Namak rice in Basti, Gorakhpur and Siddharthnagar, Banana chips in Kushinagar, potato in Purvanchal  and other crops are being set up. Similarly, there is an emphasis on setting up food processing units based on maize cultivation in western and central Uttar Pradesh, he added.

The spokesperson said that in order to promote food processing industries in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government is giving an exemption in the mandi rates to agricultural processing units and new rules have been made for that purpose. The government is completely focused on bringing up more units to the state so that with more employment opportunities, farmers can also get maximum benefit from these units.

The government has also proposed a plan to set up agriculture and food processing industries on the vacant land of big mandis in the state. Under this plan, the food processing units set up in the mandi area, which cost Rs five crore or more, are being exempted from the mandi duty for 5 years, he said.
