Four police personnel injured in a bid to implement shut down

Goaltore(West Midnapore)/Kolkata,02 April (HS): At least 4 policemen including one Assistant Sub Inspector were injured when a clash broke out with the local people in this small district town in West Midnapore district last night in a bid to implement a complete shut down in the locality.
According to reports reaching here today, the incident took place when a team police personnel from Goaltore police station reached a local club and directed its members who were gossiping in groups, to immediately disperse and return home in view of the locked-down condition.
But instead, several young members of the club got involved in an altercation with the police personnel and refused to vacate the place.
Soon a clash ensued when police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the youth.
As the police personnel were soon outnumbered by the local people who attacked the police with brickbats, sticks and even with iron rods, in which at least four police personnel including the ASI and some Constables sustained injuries. Two police vehicles were also severely damaged in the incident.
However, soon a massive force reached the spot and rescued the trapped policemen and sent the injured to hospital. However, none was arrested.
An uneasy prevailed in the entire Goaltore town after the incident with a large contingent of police being deployed to prevent recurrence of such incident, the police said and urged everybody to remain indoors and implement the nationwide locked down in the area successfully in view of the danger of the pandemic.
Reports of several such unauthorised gatherings of many people are coming from several other parts of the West Bengal including those from North 24 Parganas, Nadia and East Burdwan districts. However, there was no report of any violence or injury from anywhere despite the intervention of the police force.
