New Delhi, Dec 11 (HS): Former Home Minister P Chidambaram has returned to the Supreme Court as a lawyer. In the INX Media case, P. Chidambaram was first arrested by the CBI and later by the Enforcement Directorate. During this time, he was in Tihar Jail for 106 days. Recently, the Supreme Court granted conditional bail to Chidambaram.
The Supreme Court has granted bail to Chidambaram on the condition of a personal bond of two lakh rupees and not going abroad without permission. Earlier Justice R. A bench headed by Bhanumathi directed the Congress leader not to make any public statement regarding the INX media case. At the same time, they have also been advised not to attempt to intimidate the witnesses.
The top court has imposed some conditions on his bail. Chidambaram ‘s passport will be confiscated and he will not be allowed to leave the country without permission. He will not give any interviews to the media. Also, they have to be available for questioning in this matter.
The Supreme Court has said that action against other accused in the case will not have any effect on the bail order. The apex court ordered the registry to return the sealed cover handed over by the ED to the bench on the last day of the hearing, which contains evidence related to the case.
