Kolkata,28 March(HS): With 5 more people in West Bengal having found ‘positive’ of carrying Corona Virus during the last 12 hours, the total number of those affected by the deadly COVID-19 in the state rose to 15 today causing serious concern to the state authorities not only about the spread of the disease but also for the lackadaisical attitudes of some people about the grave danger.
According to reports, a 28-year-old youth who returned to New Delhi from London a few days ago with early symptoms of Coronavirus, met a number of his relatives and friends there before reaching Tehatta in Nadia district, about 100 km from Kolkata, to attend a wedding ceremony there on 23 March.
At the wedding, they met many more people without caring for the chances of spreading the disease among many other innocent people without their knowledge.
Later when the Nadia district authorities came to know about the youth and his family, they swung into action and following immediate tests it was found that apart from the youth four other members of his family including a nine-month-old baby and a 12-year-old boy were also affected by COVID -19.
All of them were immediately sent to isolation wards of the district hospital before they were brought to Kolkata’s Infectious Disease hospital at Beliaghata this morning for further treatment.
Expressing serious concern at such lackadaisical attitudes of some people about the grievous danger and the pandemic nature of the killer virus, the Medical Council of the state have urged the people not only to remain indoors but also be aware of the real danger of Coronavirus and take appropriate preventive steps.
Meanwhile, more than 26,500 people have so far undergone tests for Coronavirus in all the 12 testing centres in the state to find that only 15 of them have so far been affected by COVID-19 with only one person, a 58-year-old resident of Dum Dum in North Kolkata succumbing to the killer disease on 23 March.
However, another patient, a 66-year-old resident of Nayabad on the Western outskirts of the city is now fighting for his life as his condition deteriorated further since last night, official reports said.
