Five died and 22 injured due to lightning in Bengal
Jhargram/ Kolkata, July 20 (HS) At least five people including three women of farmers family were killed and 22 others suffered serious burn injuries after they were struck by lightning in different areas of Jhargram district today.
According to official reports reaching here this evening, at least two women were killed on the spot and five others injured after they were struck by lightning while working in a paddy field near Dhankhali village during heavy downpour this afternoon.
In a similar incident at Patihari village in the same district two farmers were killed and 14 others sustained burn injuries after they were also struck by lightning while working in the field amid showers. All injured were admitted to district hospital.
In the third incident at Gopiballavpur one middle-aged person and three others were seriously injured after they were struck by lightning when they took shelter in a local bus stand near the state highways.Though all four were rushed to the hospital, one middle-aged person identified as one Gokul Murmu, died soon after while others were admitted in serious condition.
Two more people also lost their lives in similar incident in the same district yesterday in which four other people were also injured and hospitalised, the sources informed.
