FIR registered against scribe Vinod Dua
New Delhi, June 6 (HS) Delhi police on Friday registered an FIR against senior journalist Vinod Dua for allegedly “making statements conducing to public mischief”. The FIR was registered after BJP spokesperson Naveen Kumar made a written complaint against Vinod Dua in the crime branch.
Naveen accused Vinod Dua of “spreading fake news” through “The Vinod Dua Show” on YouTube. Naveen Kumar also alleged that Dua had called the prime minister “toothless”.
When contacted, Dua said, “I have not yet been contacted by the police. I cannot react to it at this point.”
In his complaint, Naveen accused Vinod Dua of “misreporting” on the Delhi communal violence and stating that the central government had done nothing to stop the violence.
“The journalist Mr Vinod Dua has blatantly lied or has misinformed his viewers about the series of events. There are also a series of old instances where bizarre and unfounded allegations have been made against the government, police and political leaders. The reporting is full of false content misleading context…(sic)” Naveen Kumar said in his complaint submitted to the crime branch.
According to the police, a case under different sections of IPC including 290 (punishment for public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) and 505(2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) has been registered against Dua.
