Farmers march into Delhi and Haryana with tractors on Dec 16
After suspending their foot march on December 14, protesting farmers have announced a new course of action. They will hold a tractor march in states outside Punjab on December 16. Additionally, a ‘rail roko’ protest is scheduled for December 18 in Punjab, running from noon to 3 p.m., according to farmers’ leader Sarwan Singh Pandher.
The decision to end the foot march came after 17 farmers were injured during clashes with Haryana security forces. The authorities used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters. This marked the third instance in less than 10 days that farmers were stopped at the Punjab-Haryana border by security personnel.
Pandher expressed strong frustration over the situation, criticizing the use of force against peaceful protesters. He questioned why only 101 farmers were labeled a threat to the law and order, while the larger group was peaceful. Furthermore, he raised concerns about the lack of parliamentary discussion on the farmers’ issue despite ongoing debates on constitutional matters.
The farmers remain resolute in their demand for the repeal of the controversial new farm laws. They are exploring various strategies to amplify their protests and make their voices heard. Despite the challenges, their determination to continue the fight is unwavering.
