London,01 May(HS): Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) president Kumar Sangakkara said that England and Australia should tour Pakistan regularly so that South Asian countries can also get international cricket facilities.

Sangakkara told Sky Sports, “If security is assured, I think England or Australia, even South Africa, should make up their mind to visit there. This should be discussed, the MCC tour will be a precursor to that.”

He said, “I don’t think you will ever be able to see a series of five Test matches and a one-day series in the future. I think it would be better if you play two Test matches first and then take a break and play one-day match.”

The Sri Lankan team which toured Pakistan in 2009, had a terrorist attack in Lahore in which six players were injured and eight Pakistanis including six police personnel were killed. Sangakkara was also part of the Sri Lankan team during that attack. After that attack, all the cricket teams raised their hands to play cricket in Pakistan.

In December last year, for the first time since 2009, Pakistan played against Sri Lanka on their home soil. While the Bangladesh team also played a test match in Rawalpindi. However, the tour had to be canceled midway due to the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic.
