Encroachment on pavements in Delhi market

New Delhi, June 12 (HS) Taking advantage of the lockdown in Delhi, some street-vendors encroached the pavements in front of Okhla Mandi to East of Kailash. While this was causing difficulties to pedestrians, the concerned department was not taking appropriate action.

Mukesh Kumar, a commuter, told  that most of the street vendors here were from the minority community. It is worth mentioning that a year ago, the Supreme Court had directed NDMC to remove all encroachments from pavements in residential areas of Delhi after giving them notice of 15 days. The court said that the cost of such eviction must be recovered from the encroachers as land revenue. The court also spoke up for the need to have a statutory framework in this regard.
