Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy eyed for key roles in Trump’s cabinet
US President-elect Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk will head the new “Department of Government Efficiency” alongside entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. This department, which Trump proposed during his campaign, aims to reduce government bureaucracy, cut unnecessary regulations, and restructure federal agencies.
Trump praised Musk and Ramaswamy, calling them “wonderful Americans” who will help streamline the federal government. “Together, they will dismantle government inefficiency, slash wasteful expenditures, and drive out fraud,” Trump said in a statement. He added that their efforts would not only improve government operations but also make life better for all Americans.
Musk’s appointment comes after Trump’s victory over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris by 69 electoral votes. In his victory speech, Trump lauded Musk, calling him an “amazing” and “super genius” figure.
Trump also highlighted Musk’s significant support during the campaign, noting that the Tesla CEO spent two weeks in Pennsylvania campaigning with him.
Musk has been a vocal supporter of Trump. He donated over $100 million to Trump’s re-election campaign and actively promoted the Republican candidate on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
Trump and Musk’s alliance deepened in early November when Trump invited Musk to join a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During the call, Zelensky thanked Musk for providing Starlink satellites, though the main conversation focused on Trump’s leadership.
As Musk steps into this new role, he will play a pivotal part in Trump’s plan to reshape government operations. The focus will be on efficiency, reducing waste, and ensuring the federal government operates more effectively, echoing Trump’s long-standing pledge to “Save America” by eliminating wasteful practices.
