Election Results 2024 LIVE: BJP Tops 49 Seats in Haryana, Congress-NC Leads in J&K
Vote counting is underway for the assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. In Haryana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims for a third consecutive term. Early trends show the BJP leading in 49 out of 90 assembly seats, while the Congress is ahead in 35 seats. However, exit polls predict a clear majority for the Congress in the state.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the situation is more dynamic. The BJP and the National Conference (NC) have won three seats each so far. Current leads indicate that the Congress-NC alliance is leading in 48 seats, surpassing the majority mark of 46 in the 90-member assembly. Meanwhile, the BJP is ahead in 26 seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leads in two.
This election is significant for Jammu and Kashmir, as it marks the first assembly elections since 2014. It is also the first election since the region was designated a Union Territory and had the special status granted by Article 370 revoked. Other parties, including the People’s Conference, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, and the Apni Party, may also influence the outcome in J&K, where exit polls suggest a hung assembly is possible.
As the counting continues, the political landscape in both regions remains uncertain. Each party is keenly watching the results, which could shape the future governance of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.
