Police arrested eight members of the banned United Liberation Front of Manipur (Pambai) in Thoubal district. They seized a cache of weapons and explosives during the operation.

The arrests took place on Tuesday as officers responded to reports of UNLF (P) members threatening residents and disrupting the land demarcation process in the area. The police recovered three AK-47 rifles, two AK-56 rifles, one M-16 rifle, and one 9 mm pistol. They also found 147 AK-47 cartridges, 20 M-16 cartridges, 25 9 mm cartridges, 16 mobile phones, and an SUV.

In a separate incident, a hand grenade was discovered at the gate of GP Women’s College, just 100 meters from Raj Bhavan, on Monday morning. The find caused panic among passersby, prompting police to cordon off the area for safety. Following the grenade recovery, security forces launched a large-scale operation to ensure the area was secure.

The recent arrests highlight ongoing security challenges in Manipur, where militant groups continue to operate despite government efforts to maintain peace. The police’s quick response in apprehending the UNLF (P) members and recovering weapons demonstrates their commitment to combating violence and ensuring public safety.
