ED attaches property worth 1097 crore of Ex-BSP MLC in Sugar Mill Scam

Lucknow, 09 March (HS) :      The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday attached  the properties worth Rs 1097 crore of former BSP MLC Mohd Iqbal in the UP sugar mill scam. The Yogi government had ordered a CBI enquiry in this matter in 2018.

The ED had also registered a case in this matter under the Prevention of Money Landering Act against the ex-MLC and others. According to the Joint Director of ED, Lucknow Zone, Rajeshwar Singh theagency issued a provisional attachment order under  the Prevention of Money Landering Act.

It is alleged that during the regime of Mayawati Government a number of suger mills of UP government were sold to Mohd Iqbal and his family mwmbers.

The probe agency alleges that the sugar mills were acquired by the accused through laundering of illegitimate money through various shell companies having dummy directors and sham transations.
