Dwijing Festival shows the way of peace and integrity of people : Himanta

Chirang, Jan 6 (HS): At a time when some people are trying to create disturbance in the state for their political benefits, yet the 4th edition of Dwijing Festival is going on peacefully and enthusiastically at Khagrabari, Aie River bank near Hagrama Bridge in Chirang district. Lakhs of visitors from across the country come here to enjoy the biggest river festival of the region.
The traditional food, exhibition, elephant ride, horse riding, boat sailing, cultural extravaganza, helicopter service, hot balloon, para-motoring, boxing competition for Northeast zone and Khomlainai (Traditional Bodo wrestling) etc. made the festival more attractive.
The Minister of Finance, T&D, PWD, Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday visited the Dwijing Festival and distributed prizes of NE zone boxing competition to the winners. Later, he addressed a brief public meeting in the open dais at the festival where huge people from all communities thronged the venue.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the people’s crowd in the ongoing Dwijing Festival at Aie River bank in Chirang district has clearly showed the peaceful coexistence of people of the region. The other side of the state is seen blazing with protest programmes against the CAA but people of BTC region are maintaining peace and unity which implied that people want peace but not uproar, he said adding that CAA will not bring harm to the people of the state as the government of India ensures protection of all indigenous people.
Sarma said people started loving  Dwijing Festival as the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland. Because, the Dwijing Festival was not remained within the state and the country but its popularity has reached to the global as visitors from different countries have also come to enjoy the festival. He said peace was utmost important for all round development and promotion of tourism. Talking to media, Sarma said the Dwijing Festival would be made a state calendar event and the concerned ministry would be able to declare it any time. He also said the state government has been extending financial grant of Rs. 6 crore for the Dwijing Festival for promotion of tourism sector and they are getting expected results.
When asked regarding the BJP’s role in the forthcoming BTC election this year, the Minister said the relations between the BJP, AGP and BPF was going on smoothly. He said the BJP has also decided to field candidates in the council election but it will not be forceful. The party will field its candidates only in the constituency where BPF president Hagrama Mohilary choose to left for BJP, he said adding that the party has taken this decision to ensure that the people’s support is strengthened and more win for BPF and BJP combined candidates. He also hinted that the party would put candidates with understanding and respect.
