Donated eyes give vision to two blind persons
PRAYAGRAJ, 19 Feb (HS): King George Medical University in collaboration with Community Eye Bank Lucknow had given two corneas to Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, M.D. Eye Hospital, Prayagraj on Friday. After receiving the corneas, the recipients (needy blind person) were called immediately and keratoplasty (corneal transplantation) operations were successfully done by Prof. S.P. Singh, Principal, M.L.N. Medical College & Director, Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, M.D. Eye Hospital, Allahabad on Friday. After the corneal transplantation operations, now two blind people are seeing the world.
Dr. S.P. Singh appealed to the general public to come forward in donating the eyes after their death for the restoration of sight to the blind persons. “Indeed it would be a great service to mankind if the heirs of the donor fulfill the wishes of the dead person and inform the eye bank promptly for the donation of eyes after death. It will go a long way in promoting corneal transplantation surgeries in the hospital, so the blind persons could see. To facilitate easy communication between the general public and eye bank two phone numbers which are active 24 hours a day have been allotted,” he said while speaking .
