Dol Utsav celebrated in Bengal with traditional fervour and enthusiasm
Kolkata 9 March (HS): Setting aside the fear of Coronavirus for the time being, millions of people in West Bengal today celebrated the ‘Dol Yatra’ utsav with traditional fervour and in full enthusiasm to spend the day with songs, dance and other forms of entertainment.
Though the Visva Bharati Central University has cancelled this year’s famous ‘Vasant Utsav’ at Santineketan(in Birbhum district) as a precautionary measure from deadly Coronavirus since large number of people from all over the state gather there to enjoy the annual celebration, several similar such programmes to mark the day in colourful manners were organised all across the city and elsewhere in the state today.
In one of such major celebrations organised by the residents of Golf Green Urban Residential Complex in South Kolkata this morning, large number of people from all walks of life and of all ages gathered at the Central park also from the nearby localities and celebrated the day with Tagore songs and dance apart from greeting one another with Abir and different shares of colours.
Interestingly, many people there were seen avoiding shaking hands with others and instead greeted one another with ‘Namaste’, as suggested by Prime minister Narendra Modi in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organisation and the Union Health ministry.
Similar programmes were also organised in several others parts of the city including those at Tala Park, Patuli, Deshapriya Park, Ultadanga, Dum Dum, Lake Town and Salt Lake areas and everywhere hundreds of people gathered to enjoy the Dol Yatra celebrations with tremendous enthusiasm.
Huge enthusiasm was also witnessed among the children of all ages who apart from enjoying the day in their own ways, drenched themselves in multiple water colours as part of the celebration.
The Weather God also did not disappoint the revealers and played the role of spoiled sport as the sky remained absolutely clear since this morning, proving the apprehension of a cloudy weather and some rain in several areas of South Bengal wrong with the overall day time temperature hovering around a pleasant 28 degree Celsius.
There is also no report of any untoward incident in connection with the Dol Utsav from anywhere in the state so far
