Doctor Assaulted by Patient Attendents: Police register case
Telangana:Hyderabad:April 01: A 49 year old patient with multiple morbidities who was admitted to Isolation ward at Gandhi Hospital was tested Covid Positive about one week ago. His condition was critical since then and the condition was updated to the attendants regularly including guarded prognosis as he developed ARDS.He succumbed to his illness today while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital. On his death attendants of the deceased assaulted the doctors on duty leading to commotion and high drama.
According to press release issued by Junior Doctor Association ,along with patient three members of his family one female and two male members were also tested positive for COVID-19 and taking treatment in the same ward. Two male patients (attenders) attacked General Medicine residents blaming the doctors for death.
Doctors stated that they remained calm about khammam and nizamabad incident(attacks on doctors) due to health emergency .But incidents are repeating continuously.They demand DGP to address the following issues-
1) Filing case against the assaulters according to ACT 11 of 2008
2)Deploying CRPF at each floor of hospital, entrance and every check points .Immediate recruitment of special protection force accroding to GO 103 .
3)Provision of PPE to all health care providers in all hospitals those are working at isolations and emergencies.
4)Assurance from chief minister on the issue demanding to adress the issue with in 24rs .
They claimed that keeping in view of health emergency in the nation we are not resorting to take drastic steps. We hope government will address the issues before things get out of hands .
Meanwhile Director General of police has condemned the incident and assured of strong Action against the culprits and those indulging in such acts of Vandalism will not be spared under any circumstances.
DGP said that the doctors and Para Medics have been working day and night treating Corona patients even at the risk of their own life. He stated that the Police Department will beef up security immediately and take all necessary measures to provide protection to all the Doctors and Para Medics treating the Covid-19 Patients. Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City has been directed to initiate appropriate measures with immediate effect.
When the reports last came in the patient who assaulted doctor has been shifted to Chest Hospital, a nodal quarantine centre and FIR has been registered.
