Chapra/Gopalganj,14 June (HS): Animesh Kumar Parashar, Gopalganj DM  has deputed shift wise magistrate and police force at Balthari check post to stop the flow of liquor in the state.

The DM along with SP Rashid Zama today conducted checking of several vehicles coming through the check post and instructed to check any vehicle suspected to be carrying liquor.

The total blanket has been implemented in Bihar, but the smugglers in connivance with the police and concerned heavyweights have been continuously pouring in liquor in the state.

Their modus operandi is simple. If they manage to pass five trucks load of liquor, insiders say, that they deliberately let one or two truck to be seized.  Prevention thus becomes an eyewash only.

Gopalganj connects its border with Uttar Pradesh and liquor in huge quantity has been arriving since long and easily available to consumers, of course at a higher price.

Patna High Court, recently, has observed that police, although, find the persons in an inebriated condition and arrest them, but surprisingly, they miss to notice the truckloads of liquor being siphoned to the state uninterrupted..

The DM said that in the light of the instruction of the State excise department, this arrangement has been put into practice. In the first shift, a cooperative officer of Thawe block, with police force along with other officials would conduct the checking.

In the second shift, Uchkagaon co-operative officer would be doing the same and in the third shift, Gopalganj labour officer will conduct checking.

Meanwhile, the smugglers appear to have found an alternative route. Watching the pressure at Balthari check post, they have found another route, but to their misfortune, a truckload of liquor was seized from near Ahirauli bridge under Kuchaikot police station.

SHO Ajit Kumar Singh told that 300 cartons worth Rs 25 lakhs were seized. This was being brought from Haryana and was to be delivered to Muzaffarpur. Two persons have also been arrested and sent to jail, he added.
