Congress MLA Basavaraju V Shivaganga claimed on Sunday that DK Shivakumar will take over as Karnataka’s Chief Minister by December. He expressed confidence that Shivakumar will hold the position for the next 7.5 years, ensuring Congress’ victory in the next Assembly elections.

“Write it down, it will happen by December. I can even write it in blood if needed. Shivakumar will become CM and lead for 7.5 years,” Shivaganga declared in Davangere.

Without confirming a power-sharing deal, the Channagiri MLA emphasized Shivakumar’s role in strengthening the party. He credited him for boosting Congress’ performance in both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

“He has made history, organized the party, and sacrificed a lot. His silence is not weakness. The high command knows everything. I am 100% sure he will be CM by December,” he added.

Speculation about a leadership change in Karnataka is growing, especially within Congress. Many believe the party is considering a “rotational chief minister” or “power-sharing” agreement.

Shivakumar, also the Karnataka Congress President, remains a strong contender for the CM post. He has openly expressed his ambition.

After Congress won the May 2023 Assembly elections, intense competition emerged between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for the top post. The party appointed Siddaramaiah as CM and convinced Shivakumar to accept the Deputy CM role. Reports suggested a rotational CM agreement, with Shivakumar set to take over after 2.5 years, but Congress never confirmed it officially.

In December 2024, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara dismissed claims of a power-sharing deal before Congress formed the government. Despite this, discussions about a possible leadership change continue, keeping Karnataka’s political landscape uncertain.
